Head teacher Alex Stark has been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement award.
Alex, who has been teaching for 40 years, will now be interviewed by the judges at this year’s Pearson National Teaching Awards
The award is given to an individual who has made a positive impact on the people they have worked with over a lifetime dedicated to teaching.
Alex, who has been Head Teacher at Tinto Primary School for 22 years, said: “I’m truly honoured and deeply grateful to be nominated for this lifetime achievement award.
“It’s incredibly humbling to be recognised in this way, especially when I reflect on the children and families, colleagues and friends who have supported and inspired me throughout my journey.
“This nomination means a great deal, and I share it with everyone I have had the privilege to work with over the last 40 years and especially at Tinto P.S & N.C as well as the Biggar Learning Community who have been such a significant part of my own learning journey and career.”
The winners of the Pearson National Teaching Awards 2026 will be announced on National Thank a Teacher Day on 17 June. The awards and teacher day are campaigns organised annually by the Teaching Awards Trust
Jacqueline Wallace, the council’s Head of Education (Primary and Early Years), said: “This award nomination is a true indicator of all the hard work and dedication that Alex Stark has brought to education over many years.
“She is very well respected by her peers and her ability to lead and inspire her teaching team will be one of the many attributes that I am sure the judges will pick up on.
“Among Alex’s many qualities, one particularly stands out—her ability to foster a sense of unity within the entire school community.
“By actively engaging with both pupils and parents, she has transformed the school into a vibrant and welcoming place to be where all children and young people strive to achieve their best.
“This intangible skill is what truly sets Alex apart, creating a school that leaves a lasting impression on all who experience it.”
